Transformer: Age of Extinction is the fourth bio-mechanical alien epic in the series, and may serve as a transitional bridge to the story-line. While movie-goers seem to love it (they openly cheered out loud at the screening I attended when Bumble Bee and Optimus Prime make their first appearances), the critics have been trashing it. Richard Roeper of the Chicago Sun-Times calls it "Mind-numbing, bombastic action that seems never to end."
In my full review here I talked about the characters, and most were stereotypical. The hero, the bad guy. Even Tessa (Nicola Peltz), who much like her predecessors -- Meagan Fox and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley --, though she does evolve from timid hottie to do-what-it-takes-to-survive-and-win ass kicking hottie, is still predictable. The only characters who surprise us are Joshua Joyce (Stanley Tucci), and -- for a short moment his assistant Su Yueming (BingBing Li).
If you like the Transformers then you'll likely enjoy this very long installment. The fun character (Sam Whitwiki) that Shia Leboef embodied is missing, as is the counter weight and comic relief of Simmons (John Turturro), but the high impact nonstop action remains.
