The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind

In dire circumstances, a boy with the drive to learn and the sheer will to survive sets out on a course he could have never expected, in this excellent adaptation of the book of the same name.

Based on the book by William Kamkwamba and Bryan Mealer, this 2019 is slow but engaging and conjures the imagination.

Set in Wimbe, Africa, a young boy the son of farmers is excited the day he puts on his school uniform
for the first day. His father didn't invest the way others did, but rather, invested in his children's education.

Deforestation, however, is crippling the farmlands. When the rains came to the fields flooded, the crops died, and the people were going hungry. William's father couldn't pay the school fees and William was told he could no longer attend.

Through a series of accidental leaning, he stumbled onto an idea and then, through a bit of blackmail, leveraged his way back into the school library where his ideas were fed. And when the dry season came, and all seemed lost, this young boy sets out to save his family, their farm, and the village.

Director Cary Joji Fukunaga leads a stellar cast that includes Chiwetel Ejiofor (known for 12 Years A Slave, and 2012), newcomer Maxwell Simba, and French actress Aïssa Maïga.
